Google Chrome to Phone is an official Google Inc. made app for Android which lets you send links, maps or phone numbers from your Google Chrome browser in your laptop/PC directly to your Android phone.

  • You have to use it to understand how awesome it is.
  • For this to work, you need install Google Chrome to Phone app for Android first and then install Chrome to Phone extension in your Google Chrome web browser.
  • We will do it step by step.

  • But this application has got some weird properties as well. Country specific restrictions are in place for unknown reasons.
  • I had to manually download the APK to install it. If you are in my same position, you can download the Chrome to Phone APK file and install it manually.
  • Launch the installed Chrome to Phone application in your phone and finish the required steps needed (pretty much self-explanatory).

  • Launch the extension in your Chrome browser. Sign in using your Gmail id (it should be the same id that you used to login from your Google Chrome to Phone Android app).
  • Gmail will ask for authorization and you are done. 
  • Now, whenever you feel like sending a link, phone number or maps to your Android smartphone from Chrome Browser (in Windows, Mac or Linux), just right click and select "Chrome to Phone". Some random demos can be seen below.

Browser wars were supposed to be over years ago. Arrival of Google Chrome changed all that. And with the passage of time, Google Chrome growth story is gaining some serious momentum. Google Chrome might have already breached the magic 20% market share and there are no signs of a slow down.

Google Chrome is Still Growing

If latest StatCounter browser market share stats are any indication, Firefox might lose its standing as the world's second most popular web browser to Google Chrome sooner than you think. Google Chrome, as of June 2011, commands 20.02% share of the global web browser market, up from 14.85% in December 2010.

Internet Explorer(IE) is continuing its download spiral in 2011 as well. Market share of IE was around 46.94% in Dec 2010 and has come down significantly since then to 43.38% now(June 2011), a loss of nearly 4 percentage points in less than 6 months. But in the case of IE, this is not a surprise anymore. IE has been losing market share for sometime now and it seems like Microsoft is just not able to check the outflow of its once massive user base.
 
The most interesting case is that of Firefox. Even after the release of the heavily upgraded Firefox 4.0, there isn't any increase of market share in real terms. But if you look closely, you will see a very slight dip in market share overall for Firefox. Firefox commanded 30.76% web browser market share in December 2010 which is now at 29.08%. 
 
If this growth curve continues unabated, Google Chrome will be breathing down Firefox's neck by the end of this year itself. Firefox has recently decided to speed up the release cycle and you can expect the release of next Firefox 5.0 very soon. But will that be enough to counter the astonishing growth of Google Chrome? We will find that out in the next few months.

Google Chrome 7 stable version has been released and it is already available for Windows, Mac and Linux. The latest version is Google Chrome 7.0.517.41 to be precise.

Sticking to its promise of 6 month release cycle, Google Chrome has released Google Chrome 7 for Windows, Mac and Linux users a day ago. The latest release brings in hundreds of bug fixes and other improvements. There is a major boost to speed as well.

According to Google, the latest Google Chrome 7.0.517.41 comes with a number of bug fixes, an updated HTML5 parser, and file API and directory upload via input tag and a number of new features.
