IE10 for Windows 7Just about a month ago the IEBlog published a post to allow business to manage the update schedule for Internet Explorer 10. It says "this approach lets organizations control when they are ready to deploy IE10 to their Windows 7 users." I took from this that IE10 on Windows 7 was imminent.

Today it's out. You can download IE10 for Windows 7 now. The details are over at the IE blog.

Google Chrome extension lets you use IE9 pinned site actions on supported sites

    ie9 jump list google chrome

One of the ways Internet Explorer 9 seeks to "bring the Web to your desktop" is by allowing sites to be pinned to your taskbar, and use jump lists to quickly and directly access specific parts of a website. A handful of big-name sites already offer Windows 7 integration, including Facebook, Twitter, CNN, Flixster, and IMDb.

Microsoft has also shared how this works (and Scott Hanselman has posted an excellent how-to article), so it's possible for other browser makers to implement, too. If you're a Google Chrome user, in fact, you can install an extension (developed by an independent programmer) which adds jump list actions to a drop-down menu on the Omnibar!

Unsurprisingly called IE9 Jump List Tasks, the extension adds a green arrow to the Omnibar whenever you visit a supported site. If jump list actions are detected, clicking the arrow will display a menu like the one you see above. It's not quite as cool as being able to poke your taskbar icons, but it is a neat display of how the feature can be utilized in non-IE browsers. The extension also didn't work for me on all the sites I tried -- Twitter and Facebook lists weren't detected -- but it was still cool to see it pop up elsewhere, like on IMDb and Flixster.

Do you like a big pile of source code? Well, there is an imperial buttload of source in the Visual Studio 2010 and .NET Framework 4 Training Kit. It's actually a 178 meg download, which is insane. Perhaps start your download now and get it in the morning when you get up. It's extremely well put together and I say Kudos to the folks that did it. They are better people than I.

I like to explore it while watching TV myself and found myself looking through tonight. I checked my blog and while I thought I'd shared this with you before, Dear Reader, I hadn't. My bad, because it's pure gold. With C# and VB, natch.

Here's an outline of what's inside. I've heard of folks setting up lunch-time study groups and going through each section.

Google Chrome Beta, Dev channels now support Windows 7 taskbar thumbnails

Earlier today, Google pushed updates to both the Chrome beta and dev channels. The good news? Apart from other minor patches and fixes users of both testing versions on Windows 7 now see per-tab taskbar thumbnail previews.

If you haven't received the update yet, you can force a check by clicking the wrench menu and then "About Google Chrome." Downloads are also available from Google's early access channels page.

It's not without bugs, though. @keshav and I have both had a glitch which seems to occur when using win+d to show the desktop where tiny windows will appear along the top of your taskbar (pic after the jump).

I've also experienced a problem similar to the one which plagued Firefox when support for this feature was first added: the spinning blue circle. It seems to occur mostly when (wait for it)...an uncooperative Flash embed appears on a web page.
